What is Initiate?
Initiate is a specialist SAP search firm working across the United States.
The work is permanent and contract appointments into two places: enterprises running SAP, and the Systems Integrators and partners who deliver for them. S/4HANA, SAP ERP and Finance, supply chain, SuccessFactors and HCM, BTP and integration, GRC and security, analytics and data.
Nothing outside SAP. That is the whole point.
Who does Initiate hire for?
Across manufacturing, life sciences, utilities, public sector and regulated environments where validation, clearance or industry-specific exposure narrows the population sharply.
Who runs the search?

Aaron Smith
Founder and Director, Initiate LLC
Recruiting into SAP since 2007. Fourteen years of that spent on specialist SAP search in the United States.
Before founding Initiate in 2018, Aaron placed SAP consultants for several of the largest consulting firms in the world, working with professionals across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe and Latin America.
The technical range covers FI/CO, MM, SD, S/4HANA, GRC and HCM/SuccessFactors, alongside the transformation roles that sit above them: architects, program and transformation directors, CoE leaders, and the business process and product owners who inherit the platform after go-live.
The approach is deliberately not transactional. A search is preparation, mapping, assessment and management, and most of the value is created before a single candidate is presented. That is set out in full in the search methodology.
Why does Initiate only work in SAP?
Because SAP is not one discipline, and treating it as one is why most searches in this market fail.
Every function of the business runs a different part of the platform, and each part carries its own specialist population. Finance alone appears as FI, CO, FICO, Central Finance and Treasury depending on who wrote the profile. HR appears as HCM, HXM, SuccessFactors and Human Capital. There are niches inside the niche, and knowing which one a requirement actually sits in is the difference between a shortlist and a list.
A generalist recruiter can find someone whose profile says SAP. Establishing whether that person has delivered a live ECC-to-S/4HANA conversion end to end, held design authority rather than attended the meetings where it was held, or handled extensions side by side on BTP rather than modifying the core, requires knowing what those distinctions mean and why they matter.
That knowledge is not transferable across markets. It is the reason for the specialism.
What does Initiate not do?
No work outside SAP and the immediately adjacent data and integration estate.
How does a search actually run?
Seven stages, from a one-hour brief through to the point a new hire has settled. A mapped search rather than an advertised one, built on a structured picture of the North American SAP talent market: 103,000 professionals mapped, 8,100 employers represented, as at Q4 2026.
